Reflect a Diversity of Voices in
Decision-making using the Principle of Consent
by Michelle Smith, Circle Forward Partners
If we are to create a world that works for all (including the Earth and non-human species) we’ll need more than spiritual practice, more than green technologies, more than conversations about inclusivity. We must acquire the skill-sets for making decisions as a community that allow for including all voices, addressing power dynamics and creating adaptive strategies.
Decision-making by Consent allows us to create fundamental systems-level change in our social, economic and political lives together. Using consent-based decision-making particularly fits the missions of intentional communities, spiritual communities, churches, cooperatives, and multi-organizational networks who need to create a culture of inclusivity.
In 21st Century decision-making, it’s time to move beyond the options of majority rule or consensus. Now, as our culture grows much more complex in its diversity, we have a third option: Consent.
Circle Forward is a system of collaborative governance based on decision-making by consent, which allows for making quick decisions, addressing power dynamics and creating adaptive strategies. Join us for this lively presentation and practice.
